
The scissor lift or platform lift, is a mechanized industrial lift that has been modified to be utilized in retail, wholesale, manufacturing and production environments. Industrial scissor lifts have been used mainly within production and manufacturing facilities for many decades to efficiently elevate and lower materials, people and other equipment. The scissor lift is a platform with wheels that operates like a forklift. It is valuable for tasks that demand the mobility and speed of transporting people and materials into the air.
When extended, the scissor lift can reach 6.4 to 18.8 meters or from 21 to 62 feet above ground. It is distinctive in the fact that it does not rely on a straight support to raise its platform, rather folding supports beneath it come together and stretch the platform upwards. Offered with either an electric or hydraulic motor, the scissor lift offers a bumpy ride due to the lift's design that keeps it from roaming with a regular velocity. Instead, it travels faster in the middle of its path and slows down with added extension.
The original scissor lifts were initially designed in the 1970's. Great upgrades in safety and materials have been prepared since then, but the basic design is still utilized. A relative to the lift truck, the scissor lift became well-known for its portability and effectiveness, also becoming popular as they were the only industrial platforms that could be effortlessly retracted to fit into the corner of an office. They are most commonly used indoors from warehouses to automotive restoration, these equipment function in many different worksites carrying out many different projects.
